Our Work Activities

The main activity of Manav Seva Ashram has been to provide special skill development training to children with mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities. They are provided special training in the areas of self care, social adaptive behavior, functional academics, pre vocational and vocational training and recreation. Training is provided by special qualified educators in specialized classrooms through application of techniques. Balanced combinations of indoor and outdoor activities are used. They believe that repeated practical exposure is the key to their training. Art, craft, music and dance are also used as medium of training and these create opportunities for their exposure and participation at different levels.

Therapeutic Intervention

Number of children and adults with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities and children with sensory impairments, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, etc come to Manav Seva Ashram for regular physiotherapy and occupational therapy their needs are fulfilled by Manav Seva Ashram through well equipped physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Therapy helps children with ADHD, Autism, behavior problems, poor fine movements and poor sensory coordination to improve their skills and reduce defects attached to these problems. A well equipped occupational therapy centre is functioning in Manav Seva Ashram Bokaro. Physiotherapy and occupational therapy prove extremely useful also for early intervention in risky cases. It could prevent disability, improve the condition of the disabled and minimize or stabilize the impact of disability. Due to improvement in their condition children could become able to sit in the classrooms to take benefit of special training.

Government Welfare Schemes

Efforts are made at center to connect maximum beneficiaries to different government welfare schemes. Parents of beneficiaries are motivated to take maximum advantage of these schemes such as social security pension, niramaya health insurance, and railway concession, I.Q. and disability certificate, income tax benefits, legal guardianship etc.

Vocational Training

Vocational training is imparted to developmentally disabled adults at special school, Ujjain and its manovikas. The objective is to enable them live useful and productive life in future. The skills include making envelops, rakhis, candles, files, decorative articles, phenol, washing powder etc. book binding, screen printing. Vocational training also requires application of special education techniques and direct practical exposure. At vocational training centre manual and semi automatic techniques are used.

Parental Guidance and Counseling

Parents of persons with disability have very important role to play in the development and rehabilitation of their children. Therefore parent's meetings guidance and counseling programs are conducted at Manav Seva Ashram. Meetings are held in groups or individually as per the need. Issues related to problems of the children, their needs, development training, vocational training and rehabilitation, welfare schemes etc. are discussed and information on matter of common interest and programs are regularly given to them.

Outreach Program

The workers and staff members at Manav Seva Ashram conduct field visits to the disability affected families for guidance, counseling, creating general awareness and to monitor how the family is looking after the child and carrying out training as per set standards by the organization and other relevant purposes.

Residential Facility

Manav Seva Ashram provides residential care facility to persons with intellectual disability and also adequate training to them for independent living during their stay. It is a centre with short term and long term residential care facility. It also provides essential respite to the parents of such children in times of difficult family situations or some other important work which may make them unable to look after the child properly and give them sufficient time and care.

The Various Interventions Offered are:-

Speech Therapy

The service mainly focuses on assessing and treating children/ adults with speech, language and communication difficulty. Or motor problems with eating and swallowing are also addressed. The services are offered by a qualified speech therapist, which addresses and provides intervention plans for different areas of disorders such as misarticulating, stuttering/ stammering, voice disorders, oral motor problems and also provide language therapy to improve social/ pragmatic skills in children/ adults with special needs.

Occupational Therapy

The occupational therapy is highly specialized and very effective in treating Hyperactivity, poor eye contact, poor fine motor skills, poor attention and concentration, poor handwriting skills, feeding problems and posture correction. We also work on assessing, evaluating and recommending adaptive modification of the mobility and postural aids.

Sensory Integration

Sensory integration therapy is conducted under the guidance of an occupational therapist, in a customized and well equipped sensory integration unit. This service aids to enhance motor functions and serves to optimize the sensory imbalance present in the individuals with development disabilities mainly in Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Physiotherapy

The therapeutic intervention focuses on the development of the functional abilities in children/ adults like, Gross motor skills, muscle strength, motor coordination and postural stability.

Skill Development

Students with moderate to severe category of intellectual disability are introduced to pre-vocational training once the students reach the age of 14. Having limited mental capacities these students cannot be expected to continue in a purely educational program till adulthood like their normal counterparts. After they have grasped functional academics the students are equipped with a specialized skill as per their potential to affect economic independence and self reliance. These trained skills can be carried out from home under the supervision of any family member or attendant.

Extra Curricular & Sports

Manav Seva Ashram has a dedicated team of specialists in fields like art, dance, and music who work towards enhancing the extra-curricular skills of the students. These activities are also a mean of alternate therapies with important health and social benefits.
Yoga is an essential and integral part of the daily curriculum at Manav Seva Ashram as it promotes physical, mental and spiritual health. Gross motor skills development, increased concentration, inner calmness and strength is aimed at with the help of yoga at Manav Seva Ashram.
The classes are carried out by trained specialist and our special educators.

Sports

Sports are an integral part of the curriculum at Manav Seva Ashram as a part of the Endeavour to provide access to all facilities and service which enables the rehabilitation and development of the differently abled students. With Specialized coaches for popular sports like basketball, cricket, badminton among others at each centre, the students are able to not only learn the sports but also inculcate confidence, a sense of belonging, accomplishment and camaraderie. Needles to say the regular physical activity goes a long way in contributing towards physical improvements such as stronger muscles enhanced cardiovascular aerobic levels and improved motor skills.
